Netflix has decided to start cracking down on account sharing via shared passwords.
The new crack down was announced during Netflix’s latest quarterly earnings call. Netflix production chief Greg Peters said the company is aware of the password sharing practice and plans to cut down on the practice.
Currently, Netflix only limits the number of devices simultaneously streaming videos.
According to a survey conducted by CNBC 10% of Netflix users aren’t paying for their accounts. 35% of those users are Millennials while only 19% are Generation X and 13% Baby Boomers.
Magid says that of Netflix’s 137 million users, 13.7 million (that 10% number again) are not paying a monthly subscription. That a whopping $135 million being missed out on by Netflix every month.
